A single coin can see a lot of life. Tossed to the street busker playing music, traded at the hands of children for lollies, flipped at a moment of indecision- heads or tails? They are woven into our everyday lives, collected, spent, always moving. Carrying the symbolism of their home nation, they are so ordinary we forget to really look at them.
Palestine lost its currency in the early 1950’s, the last Palestinian coins were minted in 1947. This is just one of the many facets of life that have been purposely and systematically erased in occupied Palestine. Yet, the people of Palestine continue to survive, strive and hope.
This pendant was moulded from a Palestinian 1939 5 Mil coin and features a hole at the center and leafy wreath design. Two coins were kindly loaned for moulding, in order to share these treasures in the form of jewellery, to be worn in solidarity with the people of Palestine.
Materials: your choice of sterling silver, red bronze or white bronze. (note bronze coins will have silver findings and/or chain)
Coin dimensions: 20mm diameter by 2mm thick
